Oakham TeachMeets

We are delighted to announce our new weekly online Teaching & Learning Clinic sessions for the Spring Term 2021:

Thursday 14th January

Remote learning: What works? What is new?

This clinic will offer staff a chance to review their online teaching experience, share some tips and update their knowledge in the light of recent research.

 Thurs 21st January

Making the most of asynchronous teaching

This clinic will focus on lessons learnt through the making and delivery of SMLs (Self-Managed Learning sessions) and demonstrate how these teaching and learning principles can help encourage pupil independence whilst relieving the pressure of live teaching.

 Thursday 28th January

Maintaining student attention and interest

As well as revisiting the best practice for online lesson design we will be presenting on cognitive load theory and long-term memory. The team will suggest ways in which pupils can manage and improve their retention of learning conducted online.

Thursday 4th February

The content conundrum: too much to do, not enough time?

This clinic will address the issue of course content and the need to cover the usual material under difficult conditions. How do we decide what to prioritise and how can we help students help themselves?

 Thursday 11th February

Rosenshine’s principles in the remote learning landscape

In this clinic we will look at the ways in which Professor Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction can be applied to the context of distance learning.

All sessions take place on Teams from 13:30 to 14:00 and recordings are available to all Oakham staff. Please note that the timetable may be subject to change as we aim to respond to staff needs.
